HangryQ is capping off the month of June with a recipe that some may find a little strange, but don’t knock it ’til you try it. On the Q for today is our new Ogre Beer Brat with Beer-can Cabbage recipe.
Now I’m sure that skeptical eyebrow of yours just raised higher than it ever has before, even higher than that time your wife scolded you for using the decorative guest towel and handed you the bleach spotted one, but trust us when we say that this will be the most delicious ground meat on a bun you will eat all year.
From start to finish, the recipe takes about 1.5 hours to complete, so plan ahead and be sure to buy some extra beer at the store when you go.
For this recipe, we simmered and smoked using the Deep Ellum Lager, but any light lager style liquid will do.
*Beer-can chicken often gets knocked for being an inefficient way to cook fowl and we agree, but we’ve learned that sticking a beer can up the backside of a cabbage does wonders for this veggie!
Swap out your sauerkraut for this Ogre basted cabbage next time you fire up the grill. It’s sure to impress!
