As Families go, this is probably one of the most unlucky. Perhaps even more than Fantine in Les Miserables. At least her daughter gets adopted by wealthy Jean Valjean. But not so the fate of the two brothers, Crispin and Basilio, as they must struggle against the world that looks down on them for their poverty and their race. The only one who looks on them with favor is their sweet doting mother who will do anything for them…Sisa. Perhaps her old friend Don Tasio showers his attention on them, but he also is a victim of his own circumstances. Don Crisostomo Ibarra, our hero arrives too late in their stories to be of any help to them, for now. But perhaps there will be hope their paths will cross….someday.
