Eleanor Collin’s novel “The Last Chapter” is based on historical records of a World War I soldiers burial ground undiscovered for over 100 years. Using military records, they have been able to ascertain that a group of Australian soldiers who went to France were all killed in a border attack with German forces. No one knew where they were until the grounds were discovered. Now using DNA testing, British soldiers are able to reconstruct much of this history and Eleanor has filled in the gaps. What does a family do when they never hear from their loved one again? What if they learned what happened? It’s a powerful book and draws a tear or two in the process.
