Joanne Lynam wanted to have children. When pregnancy seemed improbable, she and her husband adopted two boys from Sri Lanka. Shortly thereafter, she found she was pregnant herself. Even as she was celebrating, she became aware that she was having a child with Down Syndrome. When the baby was born, the doctors wanted her to walk away, however, Joanne wanted to be the mother of that child and that has made all the difference. Joanne’s daughter is grown now and runs her own business. The goal was always to help her daughter live a good life and she is succeeding with the help of a community.
