“An artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times.” - Nina Simone. In a past year and a half, we have undergone a whirlwind of change. The COVID-19 pandemic, the George Floyd uprisings, and the collapse of our economy has not only changed the way we live, but the way we relate to art. In the Black Cyber(art) Space, we examine what it means to be an artist when the world is aflame, and how art can be a tool for finding community in troubling times. The documentary looks at three Black-owned art organizations and how they adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as navigate artistry in one of the most politically charged times in American history.
