Gemini Does NOT Do Games

Gemini Does Everything

I think the time has come for me to be honest - not just with you, but with myself.

As I type this up, I have another week's worth of Let's Plays already uploaded to the XOTV channel, waiting for me to hit the publish button. And as the time for me to record another batch grows more and more near, a realization becomes ever clearer to me.

I just don't have it in me anymore.

Now, don't get me wrong; I don't regret starting Gemini Does Games. It was a fun idea at the beginning, I enjoyed it for most of the time, it kept me sane in a time when I desperately needed it, and through it I've met some of the closest friends I could hope for.

But, the fact remains that while I always said I never had expectations of "being the next Markiplier", I did start the channel in the hopes that it would provide me a source of income and freedom from the shitty day job that I held at the time. Well, I've given it a good 6 years and change at this point, and I've long since left that day job, but the "gaming content creation job" idea has, let's face it, not taken off all that well, and while individually I enjoy playing games, and editing videos, the grind of constantly putting them together against the pressure of trying to be successful is just not fun anymore.

If I'm honest (which, as we established at the beginning of this blog, I'm trying to be), I have more of a chance (however slim) at gaining some kind of income with the voice acting I do, plus I'm enjoying my other creative endeavors far more.

And so, it saddens me, yet at the same time relieves me slightly, to say "that's it". The week's worth of Let's Plays I mentioned will be published as planned, but after that, I'm hanging up my gaming content hat for the foreseeable future. Which is not necessarily to say you won't ever see me playing games again. Whether on Twitch or XOTV, I may still do the odd gaming stream as the mood strikes me, and it's not like I'll be cutting all ties with my gaming friends, but I'm not going to be treating the gaming content as "my job".

As I always like to say, things may change. Maybe I'll pick it up again at some point, although honestly I doubt it. Either way, the Gemini Does Everything brand will stick around; if nothing else it offers me more creative freedom. But for now at least, Gemini Does Games is no more.

I love you all, and thank you for your support over the years.
