Great service doesn’t always end with a great tip. While you can generally expect a certain amount based on the size of the check, even that formula doesn’t always hold up. That’s why seasoned waiters know better than to get too attached to gratuities, especially on a case by case basis.
Instead, we learn to focus on the things we CAN control: -maintain a consistent level of focus throughout the shift -manage our emotional responses to guests and coworkers -pay attention to our inner dialogue -relax and take occasional, deep breaths throughout the shift -decide to give great service to every guest without expectation knowing that it will all work out in the end
