We’re not being “snowflakes or too sensitive” when we talk about feeling exhausted and drained from foodservice work.
The “tough it out” mentality is old school and counterproductive. There’s nothing noble or impressive about constantly gritting your teeth and powering through. This merely suppresses the symptoms of mental fatigue and physical strain, creating the conditions for even greater suffering in the future. Think about it; how many people do you know who ignored their health only to pay for it later in life.
The first step is recognizing that we’re vulnerable, understanding what restaurant work does to our minds and bodies, and then taking massive action towards getting the support we need.
